In 1973, Paramount decided that the Star Trek franchise was well-suited for a Saturday morning animated series.  With the exception of Walter Koenig, the entire cast of regulars from the original show were hired to provide the voices for their cartoon counterparts (with James Doohan supplying the voices for several of the new crew members and most of the aliens).

The show received scripts from several prominent science fiction writers, many of whom had contributed to the original series.  A plus with this new format was the magic of animation, which allowed complicated locations and aliens to be recreated in an affordable manner, giving more opportunities to showcase the many alien cultures that Gene Roddenberry had originally imagined for his brainchild television show.

Paramount Pictures teamed with Filmation Associated to produce the animated show.  Filmation was also responsible for "The New Adventures of Superman," "The Adventures of Batman and Robin," "Aquaman," "Lassie's Rescue Rangers," and "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe."  In fact, the animation is the same in several of those shows, with the animated character simply given a different face and costume.

At this point, I will simply list the animated episodes and provide a link to purchase the VHS tape.  When I am finished with the episodes from the live action series, I will devote a synopsis page to each of the thirty-minute animated episodes, of which there were twenty-two.  The episodes are listed in production order, with the original airdates added below.
